Sponsors 15,000 cassette tapes to support the education needs of blind children
Ho Chi Minh City, 4 August 2010 – CapitaLand Vietnam today contributed 15,000 cassette tapes to benefit the blind community through the Audio Books Charity Fund. Those tapes will be used to support the education needs of blind children in Vietnam. With the 15,000 tapes, the National Audio Library will record about 100 books including textbooks and references, to supplement the study materials for 84 schools and organizations nationwide. This support from CapitaLand is expected to benefit 6,000 blind students in the coming school year 2010 – 2011.
The information in textbooks and references will be recorded by volunteer professional speakers. The recorded tapes will then be delivered to 84 needy blind schools and organizations. According to Ms. Nguyen Huong Duong, Director of Audible Books Library, “Annually, the library needs 30,000 tapes to fulfill the needs of blind children in Vietnam. With the present of 15,000 tapes from CapitaLand, the library would meet half of its annual need CapitaLand staff also spent some time to visit the Audio Books Library and understand the library’s operations. 40 staffs from CapitaLand Vietnam and 20 children from Thien An Blind Orphanage visited the Audio Books Library and study the audio library’s operations.
Mr Chen Lian Pang, CEO (Southeast Asia) of CapitaLand Commercial and CEO of CapitaLand Vietnam, said: “When we grow on the business front, we will not forget to give it back to the local community through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Activities. We hope to build a brighter future for underprivileged children.”
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Duy Khoa from Investment and Assets Management Department shared, “During the visit, we have a better understanding of the difficulties and challenges the blind children faced in their studies and their daily lifestyle. We also learn to appreciate the dedicated and enthusiastic spirit of those who work in Audio Books Library to manage the recording, and distribution of the cassette tapes to all blind people nationwide.”
The initiative is one of CapitaLand Vietnam’s CSR activities to help blind children excel in their studies and study better and help CapitaLand’s staff to appreciate the way of life of the less fortunate.
